Waiting with a Promise

Waiting Room

  • Pastor James Alexander

Waiting: the action of staying where one is or delaying action until a particular time or until something else happens.

“Our freedom, healing, deliverance, salvation and redemption is promised. However, it requires a down payment of patience to wait with him to fulfill the work he started in you”

    Matthew 3:3
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah … (NIV)

    Matthew 4:14
… to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah (NIV)

    Matthew 8:17
This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah … (NIV)

    Isaiah 9:1-7 (NIV)
1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.

4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.

    And he will be called

     Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness  from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

    Waiting With a Promise

    1) Make the decision to enter the waiting room

“Waiting as a disciple of Jesus is not empty waiting. It is waiting for the promise hidden in our hearts, which makes already present what we are waiting for. “
    - Henri Nouwen

“Waiting is a sustained effort to stay focused on God through prayer and belief.”
    - Max Lucado

    2) There is difference between a pep-talk and a promise

    3) If you want to thrive in the waiting, call Him by His name

    …And he will be called

    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

    Psalm 130

    1 Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

    2 Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.

3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?

4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
    from all their sins.
