The Gift of Waiting

  • Luke 2:25-32
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God….

    Isaiah 49:13
Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted His people, And will have mercy on His afflicted.

    Isaiah 51:3
For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody.

    Isaiah 52:9
Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem! For the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem.

    Isaiah 66:13
As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

The Waiting Place is not a Wasted Place

    Isaiah 51:3
For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places

    Isaiah 52:9
Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem!

The Waiting Room: that place of tension between the now and not yet

Waiting is a gift from God, not the wrath of God

Waiting - to expect the fulfillment of promises

The Waiting Room is a Room filled with Expectancy and Urgency

    Luke 2:25
There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel.

Simeon - hearkening (to give heed or attention to what is said; listen), hearing, hears, obeys or hearing with acceptance.

Simeon was Just - righteous, observing divine laws in a wide sense, upright, virtuous, keeping the commands of God.

    Romans 1:17
This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” - NLT

Without faith the wait becomes a weight.

Simeon was Devout - taking hold aggressively of what is good.

The waiting room is where I hear it and take hold of it.
