  (00:05) it is truly a privilege to be here today this is a special day because as the Bible says it's more blessed to give than receive and today you're going to have the opportunity to give to change the trajectory of a child's life you're going to have the opportunity to make a difference and what's even better is today every dollar you give we have a donor that's going to match it and

  (00:52) double it so that your giving today will change even more kids by your your sacrifice and by your giving it's called one day Sunday which is where you take one day's wage and you give some of you can do more than one day some can do a week or a month we've had even people that have done a Year's worth of wages that have given because they understand where we are today in the world how many know eternity is forever it's coming quickly and there are so many that don't know Jesus Christ and don't have hope

  (01:28) they don't have a better tomorrow and they need our help so I'm so honored that Pastor Dean has chosen to do something like this and I am uh privileged to be able to talk to you for a few minutes about this before I do it though my wife Judy is here she's Co at William Jessup University and um I just want you to meet her just for a second Judy stand up she is [Applause] uh she's uh tremendous blessing in my life and uh I caught her at a low moment and and was able to talk her into staying with me and marrying me thank

  (02:09) God she did and uh and she stayed because that's not an easy task so uh I just want to say thank you that Hal Donaldson the president of Convoy sends his greetings to you today and um and he just thanks you for what you're doing before I speak though I have to I have to show you something I have three three adult children right uh today and a son-in-law and they uh my son-in-law and daughter gave us a boy as our first grandson his name's Ezekiel and that's my daughter Jordan and this kid I just tell you I don't

  (02:48) know about your grandkids but he's on a whole other level I just just telling you he's on a whole other level speak several languages which most of them I don't know he just kind of just starts talking and and it is a joy how many grandparents in the house anybody here you know what I'm talking about my kids go you know what Dad I think you love them more than you love us I'm like no I do you just need to know that right off the bat they are they that right now Ezekiel is number one so so thank you

  (03:20) for doing that I I'm taking applications for my middle daughter and my son um that if you are single you love Jesus just come see me if you want to be an Insider with disasters you can you can text here and see what Convoy do and we respond to every disaster that happens in the world so whatever takes place Convoy is there the Maui fires I was just in Honolulu preaching there I flew to Maui and was able to see lahina and the results of that it was devastating but I want you to know Convoy of hope has sent many

  (04:02) many many containers with food and blankets and and water and help in fact we've already helped 22 families moved to five different Islands we provided appliances we've provided much needed items to help them to get started with uh with everything they were they lost were just helping them get back on their feet and we're going to be there long term we don't just drive in or fly in or or ship stuff and drop it off and say God bless you we work through the local church because God's answer to the world

  (04:35) is the local church and we make them the heroes and we stay until that we're no longer needed in partnership with the church to make a difference so I want to thank you for all of that also since 1994 you'll see on the screen I want to get into the the subject for a moment but you'll see since 94 we have fed served and shared shared the gospel with over 200 million people around the world how many know that's a miracle that's a God thing and we are feeding presently 533,000 children every day their meal of the day

  (05:12) they're being educated they're connected to a local church in 37 different countries and our goal is by 2030 to expand to 1 million children that will be able to help we want to break the cycle of poverty both spiritually and physically in their lives because they matter we also are empowering women 990,000 since that time we help them start businesses we seed them with what they need for the business we have a 97% success rate five years later that they're still in business they have a place to live they can pay for their

  (05:50) kids to go to school and it's broken the cycle of poverty to the glory of God we have 80,000 Farmers we've helped and God has just blessed us we've given out over2 billion doll worth of needed items for those that desperately needed help and we are so grateful to God for what he's helped us to do because of people like you because of people like you were able to step in and Be Your Hands Extended so that you can change the future of someone not only here presently but also for eternity and that's what matters what does it matter

  (06:29) if feed a be a belly but they don't know Jesus we want to do both of them and change their life how many know God cares about them he loves them this morning we're going to ask you to prayerfully consider to give one day's wage to help those that are hurting hungry and desperately need Jesus your one day's wage is going to help us to increase our ability to give in the Philippines we're feeding 65,00 97 right now and we want to grow that with your help we're feeding 10,842 in Zambia 76,800 in El Salvador we are we are

  (07:14) seeing God change lives and we truly believe that hope sets the table when you look at this table behind me you'll see there are four different place settings you'll see one at the head of the table the father that gets up every day and does everything in his power to try to take care of his family he wants to provide for them yet the average person that's in extreme poverty earns $2 or less a day so he's trying to help them the mom on this side of the table she's desperately wants her her child to

  (07:50) have a better future than what they've had and so this mom does everything she can to feed her family but she spends about eight hour hours a day fetching water because she has no running water so she has to go down get water bring it back if you're a son or a daughter depending on which position you have a son gets to go to school they're hoping he'll learn but if they're too poor the son has to work he can't finish his education so you'll see six-year-old seveny olds eight-year olds

  (08:25) that are out scaming they're out doing everything they can to help their family if you're a daughter good luck many daughters don't get to go to school because the moment they get up they do chores they have to get firewood they have to clean they have to help with breakfast if there's any and when they finish all of that then they can walk to school which is normally a good 30 to 45 minutes so when they get there they're so tired they fall asleep on their on their desk most kids won't won't even finish

  (09:00) with a high school graduation you know why because of food insecurity because they don't have enough you want to stop sex slavery it starts around the table that's where it changes everything this one here as you can see is an elaborate play setting this represents us and the blessings that God has given us so much so so we can help engage the world but I'll come back to that in a moment when God first created the heavens and the Earth he spoke and it all begin to happen but with mankind he reached down into the dirt scooped it up

  (09:44) and he formed man and he took them and breathed his breath in them and when he did that he declared instantly that every single person is of utmost intrinsic value but tragically a lot of the world doesn't feel that way they feel neglected they feel left out they feel like there's no hope hope only works if it gets there in time dedri Bon Hofer said these words the church is the church only when it exists for others I've got news for you that today we get one of the greatest privileges to engage and come along IDE God to be His

  (10:31) Hands Extended to help those that matter so much to him Co has done a a work on poverty in the world in fact they tell us now that poverty has been setback 20 years that there is now 119 million more people that are in extreme poverty because of covid all the gains we had in Education Agency autonomy Civil Society they've all vanished and now we have to move forward and I believe Church listen that hope is a human right it's a human right I want to spend a few moments and just set the table people ask me all the

  (11:18) time what's the greatest news Pastor Eddie uh uh the greatest need in the world today is it food is it water yes all of those are important but the greatest need in the the world is for Hope Hebrews 6:19 says that we have this hope as an anchor for our soul firm and secure how many are so grateful for the hope you have in Jesus that no matter if your breath leaves you today you are with him for eternity you have a hope that no matter what you face no matter what you go through that God will never leave you he'll never abandon you he'll

  (11:54) never walk away from you that he hears you when you cry and he answers your cries he's a shelter in the middle of a storm he is a God that walks with you in the deepest darkest valleys and on the highest mountaintops hope is desperately needed you know why because where hopelessness abounds people do unspeakable things not long ago our leadership was in Southeast Asia and met a dad who told the sad story about how his family was starving and so he sold his daughter in order to get food when you walk among refugee camps

  (12:37) when you see those that are hungry that are displaced whether they're Venezuelans who were eating dirt because they didn't have food to even eat Nations such as Colombia Brazil Honduras Guatemala these countries where people are fleeing to try to find hope you notice a trend women and girls are shaving their heads you know why because they're selling their hair to get food how desperate do you have to be to say that I have to do these extreme things in order to have a meal to give to my kids and I don't know

  (13:20) about you I know parents parents know you do anything for your kids you do anything to take care of them to provide for for them to see them have a future and a hope I want you to know your one Day's gift it will help us to increase in shrilanka where we're feeding 1,022 kids it'll help us to grow in Ethiopia where we're feeding 3,414 children right now it'll help us in South Africa to grow our feeding program from 34,653 to more in the future in Nepal we're feeding 1558 kids you're going to help us grow

  (14:00) that to give them a future and a hope in Kenya we're feeding almost 9500 kids their only meal of the day to a hungry child not only in Bangladesh or Ethiopia or in the United States hope shows up through a plate of food what does it look like to those in Ukraine because we're still there providing food and blankets and fuel to help them we have drivers risking their lives that are driving back roads with food and supplies in their trucks risking their lives because of your help we're able to supply that but what does it look like

  (14:48) to them it comes in the form of food to the Roma that are fleeing Ukraine it's it's a bus to a woman in Ethiopia is starting a business being trained getting the tools she needs to have her own business to an elderly neighbor it's mowing a lawn hope comes in many different forms but the greatest need of hope today is that 40% of the world's population have never heard the good news of Jesus Christ one time in their life 40% of this world world 's population but I want you to know there's over 700 scriptures that affirm

  (15:35) God's unwavering love for the poor Deuteronomy 15:10 look what it says give generously to the poor not grudgingly for the Lord your God will bless you in some things you do in in a few things that you do Bible says he'll bless you in everything how many you like that kind of blessing on your life that there there's a favor there's a blessing because you care about what matters to him Matthew 25 says the king will answer them don't you know when you cared for one of the least of these my little ones

  (16:10) my true brothers and sisters you demonstrated love for me Proverbs 19:17 says whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord and He will repay him for his deeds I'm going to tell you something God is not a debtor to any man and when you care about what matters to him when you care about the hungry the hurting the spiritually lost those that desperately need hope when you care about them I'm going to tell you something you get a God that doesn't know the word impossible to respond on your behalf and to open the windows of

  (16:49) Heaven in your life in a greater degree you know why because God cares about the poor the widows the orphans the hurting in fact if you study scripture you'll find out that if you oppose or mock or belittle the poor or the orphans or the widows God said I will rise up like an Avenger and I will take their cause and I will stand in opposition to you what does that tell you we have a heavenly father that not only loves us fully he loves the hurting the poor the suffering with all of his heart and passion for God this isn't just just

  (17:29) important for him it's not just a priority it is personal for God it's personal those of you that have grandchildren or or children will appreciate this if someone gives you a gift you would say to them thank you man it means a lot to me that you thought of me and gave me a gift but if you give a gift to your kids if someone gives a gift to your kids or your grand kids it moves to a whole different level doesn't it that you thought enough of them and all of a sudden you're like okay you're on my

  (18:06) radar I don't know how I'm going to do it but I'm going to bless you I don't know how I'm going to do do you know that God when he said when you do this he attaches promises benefits and rewards to those who step in to help the hurting the hungry the broken the Lost he says I'm going to open the windows of Heaven over your life and I will pour out a blessing on you Hallelujah Jesus you don't believe me look what Proverbs 11:25 says the generous will prosper those who refresh others will

  (18:41) themselves be refreshed oh my friend when you provide a one day's wage I was in Haiti and a mother was standing outside the fence of a school that had double sessions Convoy has been feeding in that school and and and thousands of others this mother was standing out there and she was looking at me and these pastors that were gathered together and she caught our attention and waved us over and so we came over to the fence and she was like I was like yeah what can we help you and she said are you with Convoy said yes

  (19:22) ma'am tears began to well up in her eyes she Saidi want you to know something she goes before Convoy began to feed in this school I had to decide every night which kid was not going to eat that night we had to rotate because we didn't have enough food to feed everybody said but when Convoy came and began to give food they didn't just give food for just our kids they gave us extra and our kids begin to bring the food home and even more importantly is that my kids begin to hear about Jesus and both of them gave their heart to the

  (20:03) Lord and they started bringing back to our house these studies they were learning and these notes that they had and they started sharing Jesus and so they shared Jesus with us with their grandparents with their aunts their uncles or nephews or cousins they started sharing Jesus with our whole family and today our entire family is born again and saved because of what Convoy of Hope has done oh my friend it's not because of it's because of you when you provide a wholesome nutritious meal where they can

  (20:38) grow see we weigh them we measure them we check their grades we see their how they're advancing we see how they're moving forward we begin to see how God is changing them changing their attitude changing their Outlook changing their hope and they're beginning to go God truly loves me because of people like you the world needs hope but the church secondly needs faith we need Faith the Apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 6 verse 9 let us not grow weary of doing good whether it's living generosity living a generous Life Giving Good Deeds

  (21:33) for in due season you'll reap if you do not give up everything in your hand is a seed but everything in God's hand is a harvest see when you plant your seed and say God I know this matters to you and you plant the seed God goes get ready for the Harvest because I'm not a debtor to anybody and I'm going to open in the windows of Heaven you see if you're not tithing I just want to say this to you you're missing two things one you're missing God's blessing overtaking you the Bible says I'll open the windows of

  (22:08) heaven and pour a blessing out on that you can't contain the other thing you miss is the curses chasing you because you haven't been obedient to tithing some of you going where's Pastor Dean he was a lot better in all this stuff than you are right now oh you say why are you so intense I'll tell you why when you stare in the eyes of starving people hopelessness when you look in the eyes of those that have no sense of future it haunts you it stays with you let me just quickly show you where the world is

  (22:54) today not going to give you background of Dr h rosling but I'm going to tell you this they divide the world today in four different levels and they have looked at it between developed and developing and this is what they've discovered level one people is one billion people on the face of the Earth 1 billion they live on less than $2 a day they get around walking barefoot their meals are cooked over an open fire they spend most of their day fetching water and they sleep on a dirt floor level two people that's

  (23:30) three billion people on the planet earn between $2 and $8 a day they can buy shoes or maybe even a bike they spend less time getting water their kids go to school they cook on a stove and the family can afford a mattress level three people or two billion people on the on the world in the world and they live on 8 to $32 a day they have a home with running water and a refrigerator you can afford a motorbike and some of your kids will graduate high school level four people are us it's one billion people in the world

  (24:07) that earn more than $32 a day they get around in a car they have at a minimum of high school education and they can afford to take a vacation occasionally to whom much is given much is required those aren't my words they are his words you say you're just trying to guilt me no I'm not believe me we have enough guilt with a lot of things in life but what I am trying to do is to spurn you to open your eyes and see that the Harvest is ripe and that people are in desperate need and what you do today can make a difference you know why

  (25:00) because not only what you give today is a sacrifice but someone's going to match your sacrifice and double your reach I don't know about you but man if I can get twice as much I'm all there because I can make a bigger difference with my life how much does food matter my wife and I were in Sweden we got invited because a pastor was ministering to immigrants that were coming in that were coming into Sweden and they didn't know what to do with them 150,000 had come and crossed the borders come over the water risking

  (25:37) their lives in small little boats and they said would Convoy be interested in giving us food for our Christmas party we want to help a thousand Muslims said yes Judy and I flew over there and said we'll come I found out that when we were there that they began to meet with these thousand Muslims in their hotel they started with just bringing cookies they didn't preach they just brought cookies then they started bringing better food then they started bringing clothes then they started doing haircuts and Manny

  (26:17) petties and they F they were just going why are you doing this why are you doing this why are you keep doing and they would just say cuz we care about you we care about you finally one day they said you want to know why come tonight at two to our meeting and we'll tell you why room was packed out a little eight-year-old girl standing up front spoke five languages was interpreting in five languages what the pastor was saying said it's because of Jesus and we care about you the night of the Christmas event Judy will tell you

  (26:50) decorated beautiful red carpet rolled out they were acting like Paparazzi taking pictures of them they were dressed as best they could then that was so exciting the music was great the food was good it was just a wonderful celebration and then I got to preach the Salvation message I told about the Incarnation and a God that loved them so much he gave his son and began to preach this message at the end of the message my interpreter was a doctor who fled Iran for his life but his family couldn't get out so for two years he

  (27:24) prayed to Allah to get his family out f five times a day nothing happened he started hearing from the pastor that hey we pray to Jesus he answers prayers he's telling stories and finally the doctor came to him and said hey can you do me a favor he said would you pray to Jesus on my behalf and ask him to get my family out of Iran for me seven days later his family touched ground in Sweden he got saved his family got saved he's interpreting and I'm preaching tears running down his face give the altar call half the room gave their

  (28:03) heart to Jesus Christ on the spot he looks at me and tears running down his face hugs me kisses me he said did you feel what I felt what' you feel I felt God in here said yeah I felt him too what does food do it opens the heart to people that have no idea of this Jesus that we so know as as Oswald J Smith great missionary said that no person has the right to hear about Jesus twice when the world has not heard about him once Africa is facing the greatest disaster in 50 years of hunger that they've ever faced in this

  (29:00) Hall it is it is absolutely they're predicting that half a million at least will die from starvation you don't even hear it on the news it's devastating the drought the lack of Clean Water Convoy has said we're going to respond let me show you a video of the response for a moment and then I'm gonna wrap up thank you for your [Music] attention so this one is Madar Madar Valley madare

  (30:07) Valley is home with the poor madare has more than 500,000 children their parent have no income or source of money so they are being left home not going to school maybe their parent are bed readed maybe they affected with the HIV the kids who their parent are drug addict those are poor of the poorer I need to do something for those kids I want to change my community holistically may God help me to be a lamb to make a change because I just believe that change start with us they are surviving on their own no one to take care of them no one no one

  (30:57) to nurture them no one to teach them no one to train them this is why we have uh this program through taking the children to our school we become father to them counselor guideance and their protector the school has already grown and was getting broken down that time we could not even now provide food we didn't have anybody to support us you cannot teach a person the empty stomach because they cannot concentrate so now when the Convoy of Hope Came in it was like a dream we have fruits we have porridge we have uh uh

  (31:40) lunch and also tomorrow they will come because they know that in school there is food and when they stay at home there is no food all you hope like a petrol being put in a car they are energizing me every day but uh we need to do more because in mad food alone could not give them brighter future we call it cha some people have nickname it kill me slowly that changai is made up of unclean water from Mad River it's mixed with ethanol they think that maybe taking alcohol is the only solution to make them now to forget about the

  (32:32) problem that they are passing through I grow when my father was drinking it has been his habit when he's drunk he come at home he start abusing us start screaming like a mad person I think it was affecting his brain Patrick was my neighbor and one day came and told me that there is an organization who want to Mentor some girls we just bring them together we talk with them we do the counseling I never like the way I was I just see myself as a disappointment but when I come to realize that I was made in God's image

  (33:14) and likeness this motivated me through this program I'm empowered I I realized that I can become a better person and I can express myself I would not like to see another child or another girl passing the same thing that I myself passed through I have hope it's like my dream is coming true out of thousands millions of people here in Kenya they knew that God has called us to come and be his vessels through these kids I know that we were chosen out of many to present the kingdom of God 479 billion people are at

  (34:18) risk Charles hop said the debt we owe to God is payable to man we're going to be in the sahell and we're going to bring hope because of people like you you might be thinking it's impossible how can that happen God doesn't know the word impossible and when you reach out and dare to sew into his kingdom he does what you can't imagine I want to tell you thank you I know this church cares you know why because I know your leadership I know their heart and I know that a pastor that has a heart for

  (35:06) Missions like that it's lifechanging for the body and God pours out his Blessing on a place like this because of your generosity I want to pray for you and what I want you to do is this ask the Lord what you should do do he's given us so much when you look at this play setting we don't know hunger we don't experience a lot of that so we're so blessed that's not guilt that's just we have responsibility I thank you thank you some of you can do one day it's a stretch some of you can do one week one

  (35:57) month thank you because it's going to change their every day father thank you for a church and a a place like real life that they believe their name real life and I thank you God that this church this congregation is already engaged in missions and sacrifice and community and and loving their neighbors and reaching out thank you I pray that you would give them your heart God that you've given us so much we need a with a world that's so fearful we need to be Christians that are fearless and I thank you God for what
