A Life Lacking Nothing

  • Psalm 23: 1-6 NIV
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

    Psalm 23:1 NIV
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing

    The Good Shepherd:

Pursues us when we are lost

Protects us from predators and even ourselves

Provides us with what we need - not what we think we want

    Matthew 18: 12-13 NIV
12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.

    John 10:11 NIV
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

    Philippians 4:19 NKJV
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

“The Lordship of God precedes the Shepherding of God”

If the Lord is YOUR Shepherd, then you KNOW and TRUST His voice

“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God.” - Brother Lawrence

    John 10:27 NIV
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

“It’s hard to hear God’s voice when you’ve already decided what you want Him to say” - Samantha J. West.

If he is to assume the role of the Shepherd, then we must undoubtingly assume the role of His Sheep.

Sheep were never to be depicted as dumb, they were to be depicted as dependent

    Psalm 23:1 NIV
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing

    The Shepherd is the source

"Jehovah Raah" emphasizes God as the Shepherd, who knows and cares for His flock.

"Jehovah Jireh" highlights God as the Provider, meeting needs before they are even known

    Psalm 34:8-10 NIV
    8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no [b]want to those who fear Him.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
